Women And Children Last

“We've waited eight years to make sure, but this is the perfect time to bring Murderdolls back to the world. We've got nothing to lose and nothing to prove. So raise your fist along with us mother fuckers, and sorry if you get a bloody nose along the way. It's about to get ugly! Women and children last!"

Murderdolls Frontman on ‘Women and Children Last’: “It’s My Favourite Thing I’ve Ever Done”

Bravewords.com recently sat down with Murderdolls vocalist Wednesday 13 to talk about the band’s brand new album Women and Children Last.

In their extensive interview, the site explains, “In 1980, VAN HALEN released Women And Children First. Now 30 years later, on August 31st 2010, MURDERDOLLS will release Women And Children Last – how times have changed! ‘Oh yeah,’ chuckles vocalist Wednesday 13. ‘It was such a good title! We knew that when people heard that title they would either be offended or laugh. I think it’s worked both ways so far. Some ladies didn’t like it, but oh well.’”

Wednesday 13 and Joey JordisonAnd as for the sound of the album,  Brave Words & Bloddy Knuckles sums up WACL as “undoubtedly darker and nastier than its predecessor.” While Wednesday 13 tells the site, “With Murderdolls this time, we changed it up. There’s no actual horror movie songs on there. There’s stories like ‘Chapel Of Blood’ and ‘Summertime Suicide’, I guess they could be a horror movie. But we didn’t want to go back to watching Dawn Of The Dead and write, when there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the Earth. That was easy to do. This time it was more of a challenge. I wanted to sing about different themes. There’s still tongue-in-cheek fun stuff on the record and there’s more serious songs like (first single) ‘My Dark Place Alone’ and ‘Nowhere’.”

Soundsphere Magazine Online: 5 Minutes With Murderdolls

Soundsphere Magazine Online recently posted an interview with Murderdolls‘ vocalist Wednesday 13. You can read an excerpt form the interview below and read the whole interview here.

With the Murderdolls‘ latest record ‘Women And Children Last’ having been released at the tail-end of last month, we thought that it would be a good time to wake Wednesday 13 up at the crack of 1pm at home in the States for an in-depth chat to find out how the new record has allowed the project to evolve and progress in 2010.

“We know that we are doing something fresh”

S] What inspired the dark and haunting opening minute of ‘The World According to Revenge’?

W13] Well, that’s a good question. We had the intro in our heads for a long time but it never had any words over it. One day, I woke up and had this idea to put down on record. It was actually one of the only songs which had been recorded in daylight. I eventually came up with the lyrics for it at two in the afternoon and just told the guy we had in to record it and that’s what you hear.

S] So was it you alone that worked on that or was that something you came up with Joey [Jordison, lead guitar] and the rest of the band?

W13] That was all me. Out of my mind in a dark room with no lights on and just laughing, hysterically. It definitely brings some serious vibes to the record and it was the only track recorded in daylight! Everything else was done after midnight ’till vocals were finished at around four-or-five in the morning but that one came to me and I was just like, ‘roll it, let’s do it’. Because of that, I still remember the day. I think the track really sets a good opening to the record.

S] Could you tell us about the writing process for, ‘Nowhere’ and what went into that? – for us, this has potential to become the next Murderdolls anti-anthem.

W13] Yeah, that feels like a catchy song and people could look at it and say, ‘There’s the radio song’. That was one of the oldest tracks intended for release, right from when we came off of our last tour. I guess we wrote the basis for that song in 2003. None of these songs were complete until we got into the studio to record the new album though. We had beginnings for stuff and Joey had some ideas for what he wanted to do for solos and bits of everything. There was something special about ‘Nowhere’ though, because the demo lasted until this year. It has got that ‘anthem’ type of vibe to it and it’s not about horror movies or anything like that. It’s the ‘I’ve been picked on my whole life and nobody’s going to stop me now’ track. I suppose you could say that’s our ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ song too. [Laughs]

Mad Mayhem: Wednesday 13′s Fake Mic

Murderdolls frontman Wednesday 13 was out on this summer’s Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival promoting the band’s brand new record (and first in 8 years) Women and Children Last (out now). Since he wasn’t performing, Wednesday did what any rockstar left to his own devices might do: fuck with people! And lucky for you ghoulscouts out there, we had our cameras ready for some Mad Mayhem.

Watch below as Wednesday constructs a fake microphone from a beer bottle, black gaffer tape, and a fog machine cord, and then watch as he stalks the outdoor arena grounds “interviewing” fans and an unsuspecting Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative).

As part of our Gear Of The Gods feature in this month’s Metal Hammer, we asked Joey Jordison to name who he saw as the most underrated guitar player of all time.

“It would probably be Johnny Thunders from the New York Dolls,” says Jordison. “He might not have been the most technical player, but he had something about him. Guitar is all about passion and playing with soul and style. That’s why I love Keith Richards and Johnny Thunders. That’s more my thing. That’s why I started Murderdolls in the first place.”
